Cambodia has been named Asia Pacific Best Golf Destination of the Year at the Asia Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC) 2025 held in Danang, Vietnam on April 4. The prestigious award was determined by votes from over 700 International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) members worldwide.
The 11th edition of AGTC, organized by IAGTO, stands as the Asia-Pacific region’s premier golf tourism event.
Accepting the award, Candra Tanpatti, Director of GreenJoyTours Cambodia, expressed deep gratitude: “On behalf of the Cambodian golf industry, we are truly honored to receive this prestigious award. This recognition reflects the dedication and hard work of many individuals and organizations, including the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia Golf Federation, golf courses, hotels, and tour operators who have helped transform our destination into a world-class haven for golfers.”
Cambodia currently features twelve operational golf courses with three more under development. The main golfing hubs are located in Phnom Penh, the capital city, and Siem Reap, home to the iconic Angkor Wat Temple. A new airport in Phnom Penh, scheduled to open later this year, will accommodate larger aircraft for long-haul flights.
During the same event, Phokeethra Country Club received recognition as the Best Golf Course in Cambodia.
The Cambodian delegation to AGTC 2025 included representatives from GreenJoyTours, Phokeethra Country Club, Chhun On Golf Resort, Vattanac Golf Resort, Courtyard by Marriott properties in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Golf Asian, and Anantara Angkor Resort.
In an exclusive interview with Khmer Times, Tanpatti noted that golf has gained significant popularity in Cambodia, with steady growth in golf courses, driving ranges, and pro shops over the past five years since the pandemic, partly due to the sport’s outdoor nature and minimal physical contact. He highlighted that golf tourism is expanding rapidly, with more international operators adding Cambodia to their itineraries. The combination of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap offers an attractive package featuring outstanding golf courses, luxury resorts, and cultural experiences.
“With several golf course projects in the pipeline, Cambodia’s golfing future looks exceptionally promising,” Tanpatti concluded.
